"Early commitments [came from] some government-linked investors in Canada, Germany and the Middle East", and Saudi Arabia pledged $100 million for this fund (which was announced while Trump was at an event in Saudi Arabia). "The fund’s money will be controlled by World Bank, not Ivanka, but she continues fundraising for it even while serving as an adviser to her father and traveling with him to meet foreign diplomats." Trump was critical of the Clinton Foundation for raising money from the same foreign entities and in the same manner as the Women's Empowerment Fund.

The next day, President Trump met with Russian officials in the White House.  According to a document summarizing this meeting [read to the New York Times by an American official], Trump said to the Russian officials "I just fired the head of the F.B.I.  He was crazy, a real nut job...I faced great pressure because of Russia.  That's taken off." In an interview, Trump noted he "was going to fire him regardless of recomendations [from Rosenstein and Sessions]"also noting several times that he was not under investigation by the FBI for collusion with the Russian government. Trump also noted that the FBI investigation into connections between Trump and Russia were on his mind when he fired Comey.  He stated in the same interview: "when I decided to just do it, I said to myself, I said, 'You know, this Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made-up story". According to Comey, Trump once asked Comey to stop investigating connections between his former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn and Russia.

The Washington D.C. Mayor's Office and Police Department both denied any validity to this story and called it fake news.  The family of the slain staffer also issued a cease and desist letter to Rod Wheeler, stating he was not authorized to speak on this subject. The FBI is also not involved in the investigation and does not have possession of the staffer's computer. Rod Wheeler, the private investigator who provided this information to Fox News, was alledgedly hired by a conservative businessman on behalf of the family.  He later denied confirming this connection to BuzzFeed News:

On a television news segment that aired in Washington, DC, on Monday, private investigator Rod Wheeler was interviewed by a reporter. "You have sources at the FBI saying that there is information that could link Seth Rich to WikiLeaks?" she asks. "Absolutely," Wheeler responds. "And that's confirmed.  My investigation up to this point shows there was some degree of email exchange between Seth Rich and WikiLeaks,” Wheeler also said, according to a Fox News report.  But on Tuesday, Wheeler told BuzzFeed News that he had no personal knowledge of whether Rich sent emails to a contact at WikiLeaks.  "That story on Fox 5 last night was inaccurate," said Wheeler, a former DC homicide detective. "I don't even know where the computers are."

Fox News later retracted the story. Rod Wheeler filed a lawsuit against Fox News and Ed Butowsky, the wealthy conservative businessman who hired Wheeler to investigate this murder for the family.  The lawsuit claims that Fox News, Butowsky, and the White House fabricated Wheeler's statements for the story and orchestrated the release and promotion of it. "According to the lawsuit, Trump press secretary Sean Spicer meets at the White House with Wheeler and Butowsky to review the Rich story a month before Fox News ran the piece."

The bill specifically states that law enforcement agencies may not "adopt, enforce, or endorse a policy under which the entity or department prohibits or materially limits the enforcement of immigration laws" or prohibit "inquiring into the immigration status of a person under a lawful detention or under arrest". The bill also "establishes criminal and civil penalties for local government entities and law enforcement that don't comply with immigration laws and detention requests...[enables fines of] up to $25,500 for each day the law is violated...[and] a misdemeanor charge for sheriffs, police chiefs and constables who fail to comply with detention requests".  Elected and appointed officials that fail to comply with this law may be removed from office. The only jurisdictions with any sort of sanctuary city laws are Travis County (includes Austin) and Dallas. Federal Judge Orlando Garcia temporarily blocked most provisions of law as a result of an ongoing lawsuit.  The state cannot punish cities jurisdictions for failing to comply with immigration detainer requests. Judge Garcia did permit law enforcement officials to ask about immigration status during questioning, but "once the initial stop is carried out, the officer is required to release the individual, regardless of whether he suspects or even knows that the individual is undocumented.”

  1. It orders the administration to"vigorously enforce Federal law's robust protections for religious freedom"
  2. It orders the Secretary of Health and Human Services to "consider issuing amended regulations, consistent with applicable law, to address conscience-based objections to the preventive-care mandate"
  3. It orders the Attorney General to "issue guidance interpreting religious liberty protections in Federal law"
  4. It also allows religious institutions to engage in political activities and support candidates:

The Secretary of the Treasury shall ensure, to the extent permitted by law, that the Department of the Treasury does not take any adverse action against any individual, house of worship, or other religious organization on the basis that such individual or organization speaks or has spoken about moral or political issues from a religious perspective, where speech of similar character has, consistent with law, not ordinarily been treated as participation or intervention in a political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) a candidate for public office.

However, the language of this executive order is vague and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) "has determined not to file a lawsuit at this time" because "the order does not meaningfully alter the ability of religious institutions or individuals to intervene in the political process. The order portends but does not yet do harm to the provision of reproductive health services." In addition,"while the order aims to allow employers to deny covering contraception for employers if that clashes with the higher-ups’ religious beliefs [bullet 3 above], federal agencies still have final say on whether employers can take that action."
