U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday [September 13, 2018] disputed Puerto Rico’s official death toll of 3,000 from hurricanes last year and accused Democrats of inflating the figure that was reached in an independent academic study“:

That number was calculated by a team of researchers from George Washington University who “spent six months poring over death certificates, speaking to funeral home directors and interviewing doctors to arrive at a death toll of nearly 3,000 people as result of Hurricane Maria’s devastation to Puerto Rico.”
