President Donald Trump on Friday [February 15, 2019] declared a national emergency in a bid to fund his promised wall at the U.S.-Mexico border without congressional approval.”  The national emergency allows him to divert funds from other sources to building the wall.

The Senate voted 59-41 on Thursday March 14, 2019 to override this national emergency declaration.

Trump vetoed the resolution on Friday March 15, 2019.  The House of Representatives attempted to override the veto but did not have enough votes.
