"In the two decades before President Trump took office, EPA civil fines averaged more than $500 million a year, when adjusted for inflation. Last year’s total [2018] was 85 percent below that amount — $72 million." During the first 9 months of Trump's Presidency, the EPA "sought civil penalties of about $50.4 million from polluters for cases initiated under Mr. Trump. It would halt requirements that automakers build cleaner, more fuel-efficient cars including hybrids and electric vehicles." The plan "would freeze fuel efficiency standards at 2020 levels through 2026, and require dramatically fewer electric vehicles." According to the plan, "U.S. fuel consumption would increase by about half a million barrels per day (2-3 percent of total daily consumption, according to the Energy Information Administration) and would impact the global climate by 3/1000th of one degree Celsius by 2100, also when compared to the standards set forth in 2012." 19 states that have adopted California's strict emissions standards plan to sue to stop the plan. Pruitt also reportedly used his staff to perform personal tasks and other non-work related errands and failed to adhere to government record keeping standards by using private email and phones for government business.  Read the full list of scandals here. Under Pruitt, the EPA aggressively sought to roll back environmental protection regulations, including the Clean Power Plan to limit air pollution and the Clean Water Plan (both in progress before he resigned).  Pruitt also publicly stated CO2 is not a primary contributor to climate change.     [post_title] => Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Chief Resigns Amid Multiple Ethics Scandals [post_excerpt] => [post_status] => publish [comment_status] => closed [ping_status] => closed [post_password] => [post_name] => environmental-protection-agency-epa-chief-resigns-amid-multiple-ethics-scandals [to_ping] => [pinged] => [post_modified] => 2018-07-13 19:53:44 [post_modified_gmt] => 2018-07-13 19:53:44 [post_content_filtered] => [post_parent] => 0 [guid] => http://factualuprising.com/?p=2624 [menu_order] => 0 [post_type] => post [post_mime_type] => [comment_count] => 0 [filter] => raw ) ) [post_count] => 3 [current_post] => -1 [in_the_loop] => [post] => WP_Post Object ( [ID] => 2743 [post_author] => 1 [post_date] => 2019-02-03 00:19:31 [post_date_gmt] => 2019-02-03 00:19:31 [post_content] => Civil penalties issued by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for those breaking emissions and pollution rules have declined significantly under President Trump's first two years.
