Mississippi Enacts Law Banning Most Abortions After 15 Weeks; Law Temporarily Blocked By Federal Judge One Day Later To Allow For Legal Challenges
On Monday March 19, 2018 the Governor of Mississippi signed a bill into law that prohibits most abortions after 15 weeks.
The “only exceptions are if a fetus has health problems making it ‘incompatible with life’ outside of the womb at full term, or if a pregnant woman’s life or a ‘major bodily function’ is threatened by pregnancy. Pregnancies resulting from rape and incest aren’t exempted.”
The bill was blocked by a Federal judge the next day. “The judge’s ruling blocks the measure for 10 days, while he considers arguments on whether to stop the law from taking effect until the outcome of a full legal challenge.”
